Finding My Joy

As I reflected  on my week I initially struggled to find what I was joyful about and thankful for.  Not because there’s nothing to be thankful for or joyous about but because my mind and my emotions had gotten the best of me.  I was tired, my stomach hurt and the seemingly never-ending issue of finances was at the forefront of my mind.

As I struggled yesterday I found it was oh so fitting that this week’s scripture study for Maximize Your Mornings was on Joy. Specifically Psalm 16.  Here’s a portion of that scripture:

“I have set the Lord always before me. because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”  Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.  You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”  Psalm 16: 8-11 NIV

For me, this portion of Psalm 16 hits me hard.  Will I set the Lord always before me? Will my heart remain glad and will I sing His praises? Even when I’m having a bad day? Even when in the natural our finances seem hopeless?  Will I remember that He will not abandon me just has He did not abandon Jesus?   If I can somehow wrap my head around that then I will find true, ever lasting joy.

This is a joy that does not ebb and flow with these earthly circumstances. It is a joy that is ever-present, that others can sense and see.  It is a radiant light, a pillar of strength and shower of mercy.

I do have much to be joyful and thankful over. I pray for true joy to take over my heart and soak way down deep into my soul.  As I recall the things He’s blessed me with may they be a visual reminder of all of the blessings the Lord has given me; spiritual and naturally.

What are you joyful about today?
